Heads up!

Have you seen these red spots on your dog when you bring them inside? If you have, you might have had the same panic attack it causes in many of the patients we see every day. Working at a veterinary clinic, we see thousands of problems, and some, I can offer some home remedy options.

These spots are caused by black flies, and they are not a medical emergency. Typically, they don't cause any itching or discomfort in dogs. Some have more reaction than others, and if you see your dog biting at or scratching their stomach, you may want to bring them to the vet or give them some Benedryl to dull the itch. As far as prevention goes, my go to is a natural fly spray. Some pet stores carry them, but it's even easier to make something at home using products you probably have in your kitchen.

My Favorite Recipe:

  • 2 cups white vinegar
  • 1 cup Avon Skin So Soft Bath Oil (original scent)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon eucalyptus oil

Because flies are different in every region, or maybe you have smell preference, here are some other options for your pup:
1.
  • 4 cups apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tsp citronella oil
(You can add basil and bay leaves based on smell preference)
2.
  • Dish soap
  • Water

Because my baby's cute...

Study Tip #1

1. Be an active reader-

What does this mean? It means you aren't sitting in your bed skimming through the pages, but at your desk, or a table with a pen in your hand and a notebook or sticky marks.

2. Vocabulary is always important-

I tend to go through my chapter first and find all the definitions, and put them in my notes before I even start reading the material. This way, you will already know what they mean when you come to them in text.

3. Read the titles of sections first-

The title of a section usually tells you what the key concept is for it. Go through that section and highlight anything that pertains to the key concept.

4. Learn how to mark pages-

By finding a good method for yourself to mark pages and know what's on them, it'll be easy to find the information you're looking for when you're studying for a test.

5. Write your own questions-

Looking for something else to put on your note cards to study? Develop your own questions from each key concept that you read; something you think will show up on the test.

Curtain Pulls

If you're like me, and you enjoy having the natural sunlight come through your windows, but your curtains are too thick to stay open on their own, then you may want to consider making these.

This is a fairly simple beaded strand with a circle at either end to be placed on a hook.

To place it on the wall, I used a thumbtack to start, but I'll be switching it out for a hook in the near future. All materials used in this were bought at Michael's.
